Foreigners to help Indonesian farmers

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Foreign donors, spearheaded by the International Financial Corporation (IFC), will help farmers in the eastern parts of Indonesia to raise the quality of their products to increase their value and produce better profits.

Euan Marshall, an official with the IFC, a financial arm of the World Bank, said that the help would take the form of technical assistance and training for farmers.

He said during an opening of an IFC office in Makassar that Makassar's farmers, for example, could get more money if they could upgrade the quality of their seaweed products, before they sold it to public. -- JP
