A gang of muggers in the Jakarta region has not only unsettled local residents but also foreign nationals. Recently, four foreign nationals were mugged in Jakarta. The four victims came from Malaysia, Germany, China, and Italy. The attackers operated at several locations, including Bundaran HI, Patung Kuda, Kebon Jeruk, Cideng and Gandaria.

‘We are compiling for all the crime scenes that have been carried out by the suspects, Four of the victims were foreign nationals,’ said Dirkrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, on Monday, 18 May 2026.

Police are developing the case. It is strongly suspected that the mugging gang active in Jakarta consists of several groups.

‘These perpetrators consist of several network groups and we are also developing to other networks,’ he said.

Eight perpetrators arrested by the Gang-Busting Team of Polda Metro Jaya. Of the eight, six mugging cases have been uncovered in the Jakarta area.

The perpetrators were nabbed three days after the team was formed. However, some remain at large.

‘This evening, we from the Gang-Busting Team, Alhamdulillah, have secured eight suspects who carried out the offence of theft with violence as has been widely reported in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya,’ said Iman.

‘Some of the locations that went viral yesterday, most of the perpetrators have already been arrested tonight,’ he added.

With regard to the perpetrators, Iman said they will be charged under Articles 466, 471, 477 and 479 of the Penal Code.

‘Therefore, every information on social media we will follow up promptly and we will strive as much as possible to present a sense of safety for the people of Jakarta,’ he stated.

Five Suspects on DPO

Several other suspects remain at large and are being pursued by investigators. Police are still carrying out hunts.

‘Five people are still at large,’ said Dirkrimum.

The suspects who are being hunted are still linked to those who have already been arrested. One of them is from Bundaran HI, still being pursued. Others are still at large and some are using firearms.

’During the arrests that were made, we used firm and measured force or fired at the legs of the perpetrators. This was done because the perpetrators resisted officers.

‘Moreover, because some of the suspects attempted to resist and flee, we carried out firm and measured actions that are of course aimed at protecting the safety of the other residents of Jakarta, while also upholding human rights for them,’ he added.
