Foreigner arrested for cheating
JAKARTA (JP): A Cameroon man was arrested after cheating two people by promising to double their money, police spokesman said yesterday.
Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said Fomenteu Nguefack Berlain Erick, 24, was arrested last Thursday for stealing Rp 10 million and US$10,000 from two victims who believed he could double their banknotes.
"The man conned his victims into believing he could reproduce rupiah and dollar notes with his equipment," Aritonang said.
The victims told police they had successfully spent a few of the allegedly 'reproduced' notes, Aritonang said.
Fomenteu, who was caught at the Pecenongan Hotel, West Jakarta, would invite his victims to his room where he would demonstrated his 'ability' to reproduce banknotes, Aritonang said.
"Police are still looking for the man's accomplices. We suspect they are playing similar tricks on people," Aritonang said. (04)
