Foreign Woman Disturbed by Quran Recitation Speakers on Gili Trawangan Threatens Locals with Machetes
A dispute between a female foreign national and residents of Gili Trawangan hamlet, Gili Indah village, Pemenang district, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, has escalated further, with the foreign woman also making threats with a machete.
After going on a rampage and destroying the prayer hall’s microphone whilst residents were conducting tadarusan (communal Quran recitation), the foreign woman returned to the villa where she resides. She is alleged to have taken a mobile phone belonging to one of the local residents.
At approximately 00:30 local time, residents went to the villa to retrieve the phone that had been taken. However, the situation became heated once again.
“We asked her staff to knock on the door. After 10 minutes she finally came out, but she threatened us with a machete. She said ‘what do you want’ whilst brandishing the blade,” said Muhammad Husni, head of Gili Trawangan hamlet, as reported on Thursday (19 February 2026).
The woman was said to have been carrying two machetes and threatened the residents. She also chased after those who had come to retrieve the mobile phone.
“She used both machetes to threaten the residents whilst running. She chased them, and naturally several people were frightened. All they wanted was to retrieve the phone she had taken,” Husni said.
Residents attempted to seize the weapons, but were only able to secure one of the machetes.
