Foreign Tourists Flock to Apply for Emergency Stay Permits in Bali
A number of foreign nationals affected by flight cancellations to the Middle East crowded Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Class I Special TPI Ngurah Rai, to apply for an Emergency Stay Permit (ITKT) on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The spokesperson for Ngurah Rai Immigration, Husnan, explained that the stay extension under ITKT lasts 30 days, referencing Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights No. 22 of 2023 on Emergency Stay Permits. ‘Under Regulation No. 22 of 2023 on Emergency Stay Permits, it is generally granted for 30 days and can be extended for another 30 days at each extension,’ he said. He noted that on 2 March there were 35 ITKT applicants, and on 3 March 44 applications. Thus, by 3 March, the total number of ITKT applications filed due to flight cancellations was around 79. He added that ITKT applications are processed using a same-day service, so applicants can obtain the ITKT on the same day they apply. ‘On that day, the residence permit is issued the same day, so the process takes only one working day,’ he said. In addition to services at the Immigration Office, a help desk was opened on the airport’s second floor involving immigration officers and airlines. Officers also ‘go the extra mile’ by visiting hotels that are temporary accommodation provided by airlines for passengers affected by the flight cancellations. ‘Hotels are involved, these hotels are linked with the airline providing lodging for stranded passengers. There, immigration officers also go to verify the paperwork,’ he added.
