Foreign Tourist Visits Rise by 7.22 Per Cent, with Malaysia Leading the Way

The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the number of international tourist arrivals to Indonesia in April 2026 reached 1.25 million visits. This figure represents a 7.22 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

Pudji Ismartini, the Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS, stated that cumulatively, the number of international tourist visits from January to April 2026 reached 4.68 million, growing by 8.24 per cent compared to the same period in 2025.

“Tourists from Malaysia remain the largest contributors to Indonesia’s visits in April 2026,” Pudji said during a press conference on Tuesday (2/6/2026). The number of Malaysian tourists reached 207,960 visits, accounting for 16.65 per cent of the total international arrivals to Indonesia. Meanwhile, tourists from China ranked third with 133,990 visits, contributing 10.73 per cent. These three countries continue to be the primary markets for Indonesian tourism, contributing nearly 40 per cent of total foreign tourist arrivals in April 2026.

On the other hand, BPS noted that domestic tourist movements in April 2026 reached 97.55 million trips. This figure is a 24.14 per cent decrease compared to April 2025, which coincided with the Eid al-Fitr holiday and homecoming (mudik) period, creating a high comparison base. Despite the year-on-year decline in April, domestic travel activity throughout this year continues to show resilience. Cumulatively, the number of domestic tourist trips from January to April 2026 reached 417.06 million, an increase of 1.48 per cent compared to the same period last year.
