Foreign Tourist QRIS Transactions Hit Rp4.3 Trillion, Led by Malaysia and Singapore

The use of QRIS as a payment method is increasingly popular among foreign tourists visiting Indonesia. Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded total QRIS usage by international travellers in Indonesia at Rp4.3 trillion as of May 2026. “The inbound nominal amount is around 4.3 trillion,” said BI Deputy Filianingsih Hendarta during an online press conference on Thursday (18/6/2026). The countries experiencing increased cross-border QRIS usage were Malaysia, China, and Singapore. Deputy Fili noted that cross-border QRIS recorded an overall inbound trend, meaning usage in Indonesia was higher than abroad. “Cross-border QRIS recorded inbound, so tourists coming to Indonesia are larger, recording inbound of Rp2.85 trillion,” Fili said. Meanwhile, outbound usage—Indonesians going abroad using QRIS—was only Rp1.47 trillion. BI Governor Perry Warjiyo also stated that digital payment transaction volumes continue to grow. In May 2026, transactions reached 5.22 billion, growing 28.14%, supported by the expansion of digital payment acceptance. According to BI data, transaction volumes via mobile apps and internet banking grew by 26.16% year-on-year and 15.51% year-on-year respectively, including QRIS transactions which continued to grow strongly at 95.10% year-on-year. “This positive performance was supported by an increase in the number of users and merchants,” Governor Perry said.
