The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Province recorded a decline in foreign tourist arrivals to the island in January 2026. Foreign tourist visits fell 12.30 per cent compared to December 2025.
Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan, head of BPS Bali Province, disclosed that 502,205 foreign tourists visited Bali in January 2026. According to him, this figure also declined when compared with the same period in January 2025.
“Normally, January is lower compared to December. However, when compared to January 2025, it has actually declined 5.23 per cent,” Hermawan said on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Hermawan stated that the majority of foreign tourists arrived by air, with 500,121 arrivals, down 10.50 per cent month-on-month. Meanwhile, arrivals via sea routes experienced a sharp decline of 84.98 per cent, dropping to just 2,084 visits.
The BPS recorded Australia as the largest contributor of foreign tourists with 134,781 arrivals, or 26.84 per cent of total visits. This was followed by China with 45,896 arrivals, or 22.54 per cent month-on-month. Then came India with 37,351 arrivals, South Korea with 27,508, and Russia with 24,917.
Meanwhile, domestic tourist arrivals also showed a modest decline. Hermawan detailed that 2,170,938 domestic tourists visited Bali in January 2026. This figure declined 1.26 per cent month-on-month.
The largest number of domestic tourists came from East Java with 173,855 trips. This was followed by West Java with 54,044 trips, the Special Capital Region of Jakarta with 52,000, and Central Java with 49,362.
Hermawan stated that the conflict between the United States and Iran could have an impact on Bali’s tourism sector. He believed that the global geopolitical situation was severely disrupting airline operations.
