Foreign players in drug business
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The police here said on Friday that
they suspected the involvement of an international network behind
drug trafficking in the province, while calling for greater
cooperation from the public to fight the crime.
"Although we have arrested drug traffickers and users, new
faces keep turning up," said West Nusa Tenggara chief of
detectives Sr. Comr. Wahyudi. "It has created the impression that
there's no end of people involved in the drug business."
Wahyudi suspected the involvement of an international network
behind the emergence of "new faces" every time the police
arrested drug dealers. He did not elaborate any further.
He hoped the public would cooperate with the police to clamp
down on the crime.
"To eradicate and prevent it (drug trafficking), the public's
participation must be increased," he said.
To facilitate such cooperation, the province has also
established a branch of the National Narcotics Agency, which
would become operational soon, Wahyudi added. -- Antara
