Foreign Passengers Using Trains at Tegal Station Reach 6,238 in First Half of 2026
Rail services at Tegal Station in Central Java recorded growth in the number of foreign national passengers during the first half of 2026. From January to June 2026, a total of 6,238 foreign nationals used train services for departures and arrivals at Tegal Station. This figure represents an 8.75 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 5,736 foreign passengers, marking an addition of 502 passengers. The increase indicates that Tegal City is increasingly attracting the attention of international tourists travelling and exploring various regions of Java using rail transport. Luqman Arif, Public Relations Manager of KAI Operational Area 4 Semarang, said that trains are a mode of transport favoured by foreign tourists because they offer a comfortable, safe, and punctual journey. ‘Trains provide an efficient and enjoyable travel experience for international tourists who want to become more familiar with the tourism potential, culture, and cuisine in various regions of Java,’ Luqman stated on Saturday (18/7). According to Luqman, the growth in the number of foreign passengers at Tegal Station demonstrates the strategic role of trains in supporting the tourism sector and the regional economy. Easy transport access and intercity connectivity are important factors encouraging tourists to visit various destinations in Central Java. In addition to providing transport services, KAI continues to support the development of regional tourism potential through improving service quality, safety, and travel comfort. KAI Operational Area 4 Semarang routinely carries out infrastructure maintenance, track inspections, and strengthening of supporting facilities to ensure train travel remains safe, smooth, and reliable. KAI hopes this positive trend will continue along with the increasing interest of foreign tourists in using trains.
