Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) continued its significant strengthening in the first trading session on Thursday (23/7/2026). The index successfully broke through the psychological level of 6,400, which had previously been a strong resistance point over the past few trading days.

According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange, the IHSG closed the first session today at 6,430.15, surging 95.68 points or 1.51% compared to the previous close. Throughout the first session, the index moved between 6,338.24 and 6,437.20, simultaneously recording an intraday high above 6,400.

Transaction value also jumped to Rp11.90 trillion, with a volume of 34.81 billion shares traded 1.75 million times. A total of 450 shares rose, 166 fell and 177 were unchanged, reflecting buying action dominating almost every sector. The IDX’s market capitalisation also rose to Rp11,286 trillion, an increase of nearly Rp200 trillion from the previous closing position.

By sector, the gains were underpinned by the property sector, which leapt 6.12%, followed by energy at 3.21%, utilities at 2.91% and basic materials at 2.86%. Only the healthcare sector was held back in slightly negative territory.

Amid this upward momentum, foreign investors once again recorded net buying activity in today’s first session. According to data from Stockbit Sekuritas, foreign investors posted a net buy of Rp164.60 billion across the whole market.

Overall, the value of foreign transactions in the first session reached Rp5.69 trillion, comprising foreign buying of Rp2.93 trillion and foreign selling of Rp2.76 trillion.

Conglomerate Shares Sought by Foreign Investors Once Again

Interestingly, foreign buying in this session was largely directed towards shares belonging to major domestic conglomerate groups, from Prajogo Pangestu’s Barito Group to the Bakrie Group, which appears to be recovering after being under pressure for some time.

Shares affiliated with the Bakrie Group, such as PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) and PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS), were targeted by foreign investors, with net buying values of Rp94.23 billion and Rp41.10 billion respectively. In addition, PT Darma Henwa Tbk (DEWA), also affiliated with the Bakrie Group, saw foreign buying worth Rp42.12 billion.

Meanwhile, shares associated with Prajogo Pangestu’s Barito Group were not spared from the foreign hunt either. PT Petrosea Tbk (PTRO) was the share with the largest foreign net buy this session at Rp97.71 billion, while PT Petrindo Jaya Kreasi Tbk (CUAN) and PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT) recorded net buys of Rp80.61 billion and Rp37.79 billion respectively.

The revival of these conglomerate shares came amid an IHSG rally that had been stalled over the past few days, and signals that foreign investors’ interest in large-cap shares owned by tycoons is beginning to strengthen again, in line with market optimism over the prospects of the commodity and energy sectors ahead.

Besides those names, foreign buying was also recorded in PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA) at Rp64.26 billion and PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) at Rp50.29 billion.

On the other hand, the largest foreign selling occurred in the petrochemical share PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (TPIA), with a value of Rp167.65 billion. Next was PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA), offloaded by foreign investors to the tune of Rp80.66 billion.

In addition, foreign investors also sold PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) worth Rp36.13 billion, PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) at Rp31.93 billion, PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN) at Rp29.35 billion, and PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) at Rp24.92 billion.
