Foreign Nationals Robbed of Rp1.3 Billion in Karawang Using Flat Tyre Trick
A vehicle carrying two foreign nationals was robbed using a method involving broken glass and a simulated flat tyre on Jalan Raya Dawuan Kalihurip, Cikampek, Karawang Regency, on Monday (28/09/2026). As a result, company cash amounting to Rp1.3 billion was stolen.
Karawang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, Kompol Ali Jupri, confirmed the incident. He stated that the robbery began while the two foreign nationals and one associate were heading to the office after withdrawing Rp1.9 billion in company cash from a private bank in Cikampek.
He explained that the money was stored in two bags, containing Rp600 million and Rp1.3 billion respectively. As they were approaching the Kalihurip toll gate, Ali Jupri noted that two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle approached the car and informed them that the rear tyre was flat.
Without suspicion, the three victims stopped the car to check the rear tyre. While the victims were distracted, the perpetrators smashed the right-side window of the car and seized the bag containing Rp1.3 billion.
“The perpetrators are indicated to have used a Satria FU motorcycle to smash the glass and immediately fled with the victim’s bag,” he said.
Ali suspects the perpetrators are part of a syndicate consisting of four or more people who had been tailing the victims since they left the bank. “We estimate the perpetrators could be three to four people. Some were monitoring the situation at the bank, while others acted as decision-makers,” he said.
He stated that the police are currently investigating the case after receiving a report from the victims. Two witnesses have been questioned, and a crime scene investigation has been conducted.
“We are currently tracing the victims’ route from their departure point to where the robbery took place,” said Ali.
