Foreign National Robbed at HI Roundabout, Police Hunt Perpetrator

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A foreign national was the victim of a robbery in the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (14/5/2026) afternoon. The robbery was uploaded by a netizen on the Threads social media platform.

In the video circulating on social media, the robbery began when the victim was playing with their mobile phone on the sidewalk. Suddenly, the perpetrator, who was riding a motorcycle, approached the victim. The perpetrator immediately snatched the victim’s phone.

The victim tried to hold on to their belongings and fell to the ground. Meanwhile, the perpetrator fled on their motorcycle.

The Head of the Menteng Metro Police, AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, said that the victim, who is from Italy, reported the case on Thursday night. According to the victim, the incident occurred on Thursday at around 4:00 PM. The stolen item was a Motorola Neo 60 mobile phone.

“The victim has reported the incident to the Menteng Police,” he said when confirmed by Republika, Friday (15/5/2026).

According to him, the police are still investigating the case. The police are also still hunting for the perpetrator. “The investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
