Foreign National Detainee at Depok Immigration Office Found Dead in Toilet

A foreign national (WNA) detainee at the Depok Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office named Duncan James Rance was found dead inside the toilet. The incident began when he was secured at the Depok Immigration Office from Sekolah Sejahtera Pancoran Mas, Depok City, due to allegations of misuse of residence permit on Monday (20/4). “Then around 17:00 WIB, Mr Duncan James Rance was placed in the detention room at the immigration office,” said Head of Public Relations of Depok Police Resort AKP Made Budi in his statement on Wednesday (22/4). Then on Tuesday (21/4), an immigration officer named Acep saw Duncan was not in the room. The immigration officer then called his colleague to search for Duncan’s whereabouts. When in front of the bathroom door, the door was seen to be locked. The officers then called out to Duncan but received no response. “Then Acep broke down the toilet door, and it turned out the victim was inside the bathroom in a state of hanging himself with his legs backwards and body leaning forward,” Made explained. “Then the immigration officers reported the incident to the Depok Metro Police Resort for follow-up,” he added. Made explained that from the statements of the immigration officers, Duncan had appeared stressed. In addition, Made also mentioned that from the identification team’s examination, no signs of violence were found on the victim. “The tool used for hanging himself was a black T-shirt belonging to the victim,” he said.
