The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) stated that the visit of the Foreign Minister, the Speaker of the MPR RI, and representatives from PBNU and Muhammadiyah to Iran is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and the friendly nation. Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, said the visit represents the Indonesian nation in strengthening bilateral relations with a friendly country. “What I can convey regarding the visit of the Foreign Minister, the Speaker of the MPR RI, and representatives from PBNU and Muhammadiyah is that this is a representation of the Indonesian nation to a friendly country,” Yvonne told reporters on Thursday (9/7). According to her, the series of bilateral meetings is directed at further strengthening Indonesia-Iran relations in various fields. “Of course, our bilateral meetings are to strengthen existing bilateral relations. The MPR Speaker and the Iranian parliament to strengthen the relationship between the Indonesian and Iranian parliaments. That is what we can convey,” she said. Yvonne emphasised that the visit represents the Indonesian nation and reflects the direction of Indonesia’s foreign policy. “This represents the Indonesian nation. This is clear and focused on that. It increasingly reflects the relationship between the two countries and Indonesia’s principle of a free and active foreign policy,” she stressed. She also expressed support for the agenda of these national figures to proceed smoothly. “The Chairmen of PBNU and Muhammadiyah. We all support them and hope their trip goes smoothly,” Yvonne concluded.
