The Indonesian Foreign Ministry continues to monitor the security situation in Iran following the aerial attack launched by the United States and Israel. The government has formally advised all Indonesian citizens in Iran to remain calm, increase their vigilance, and comply with local authority regulations.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran confirmed that armed aerial attacks occurred in several cities on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at approximately 09:45 local time. The Indonesian government is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of the security situation to determine necessary protective measures.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran is focusing on intensive communication with Indonesian citizens in Iran and has issued the latest circular containing recommendations and concrete steps to ensure their safety and security,” Yvonne said in a written statement in Jakarta.

In case of emergency, Indonesian citizens can immediately contact the embassy through designated hotlines.

The attack on Saturday, 28 February, marked the second military operation ordered by United States President Donald Trump against Iran since June 2025. Trump stated that this large-scale military operation was conducted to eliminate the threat posed by Tehran’s nuclear weapons development programme.

This situation came as a surprise to many given that the US and Iran had only recently completed three rounds of indirect negotiations on the nuclear programme, mediated by Oman. The negotiations in Muscat and Geneva had in fact reached several important points of agreement.

However, this latest military aggression threatens the sustainability of the diplomatic process that has been built. The Indonesian Foreign Ministry will continue to monitor whether this situation will trigger mass evacuation or wider security disruptions for civilians, particularly the Indonesian community residing in Iran.

Indonesian citizens are requested to maintain communication with Indonesian representatives and report their whereabouts through the self-reporting system to facilitate evacuation procedures should the situation deteriorate further.
