Foreign Ministry: UAE's Exit from OPEC Will Not Affect Relations with Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has stated that the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) exit from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will not affect bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UAE.
“The UAE’s policy does not affect the bilateral relations that have been established so far or the strategic cooperation that has been built between Indonesia and the UAE,” said Kemlu spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang during a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.
Yvonne said that the Indonesian Government views this development as part of the evolving dynamics of global energy governance and hopes that it will continue to support market stability and global energy supply security.
“The Indonesian Government will of course continue to monitor the overall development of the situation and its implications for the national economy and energy resilience,” said Yvonne.
Previously, the United Arab Emirates announced its decision to withdraw from OPEC and OPEC+ effective 1 May 2026.
“The UAE’s decision to exit OPEC is a sovereign strategic choice based on its long-term economic vision,” said UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs Communication Director Afra Mahash Al Hameli on platform X on 28 April 2026.
The UAE stated that it will continue to work closely with partners and strengthen multilateral cooperation, despite deciding to leave OPEC.
