The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed reports that three Indonesian crew members were victims of an attack in the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait, Yemen. The three Indonesian nationals were aboard the MV Tihamah and were attacked by a drone belonging to the Houthi group.

“Of the three Indonesian crew members, one suffered minor injuries from shrapnel and did not require hospital treatment, while another was injured and has received treatment at a hospital,” said Heni Hamidah, Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to journalists in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

Previously, correspondents from Al Arabiya and Al Hadath reported on Tuesday (11/8) that one Indonesian national had been killed in the attack. Heni said that information was still being verified.

“One other Indonesian crew member has been reported by several international media outlets to have died in the incident. However, that information is still in the process of being verified,” Heni said.

She confirmed that the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat continues to monitor developments, particularly after establishing contact with the Indonesian crew members aboard the MV Tihamah. The vessel is known to be carrying a total of 11 crew members, consisting of eight Pakistani nationals and three Indonesian nationals.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat, will continue to communicate with local authorities and other relevant parties to obtain further developments regarding the incident, she said.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Muscat is also communicating with the relevant authorities to obtain official confirmation regarding the condition and whereabouts of the Indonesian crew members concerned,” she said.

In addition, the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat will take the necessary steps to ensure protection for the three affected Indonesian crew members, such as providing the assistance and aid they require.

The Indonesian Embassy in Muscat is also considering facilitating the repatriation of the Indonesian crew members to their homeland if conditions and circumstances permit, Heni said.

An Anadolu report stated that an Indonesian national was one of three crew members killed in an attack on a commercial vessel in the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.

According to the government-affiliated television station Al-Jumhuriya TV on Tuesday, the attack, allegedly carried out by the Houthi group in Yemen, also killed two Pakistani nationals, according to initial reports.

At the time, Al-Jumhuriya TV’s report did not name the vessel that was attacked or its owner. There has been no statement from the Houthi group regarding the attack.

The Bab Al-Mandeb Strait is the gateway to the Red Sea, located on the western side of the Arabian Peninsula.
