Foreign Ministry Speaks Out on Indonesia's Representative at Khamenei's Final Respects

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has spoken out regarding Indonesia’s presence at the memorial events for the late Ayatollah Khamenei held in Iran. The government has confirmed that Indonesia was represented by the Indonesian Ambassador to Tehran.

Kemlu Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated that the government appreciated the invitation from the Iranian Government to attend the series of memorial processions. ‘The Indonesian Government expresses its utmost appreciation for the invitation from the Iranian Government to attend the series of events honouring the late Ayatollah Khamenei. In this regard, the Indonesian Government has conveyed that Indonesia will be represented by the Indonesian Ambassador in Tehran,’ Yvonne said on Saturday (4/7/2026).

Yvonne explained that on 2 July 2026, the Iranian Government informed all diplomatic representatives in the country that the official memorial event would be attended by senior central government officials. She added that Iran also expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s decision to officially appoint the Indonesian Ambassador in Tehran as the government’s representative.

She further noted that the Indonesian Ambassador attended the memorial and prayer ceremony for the deceased at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran on Saturday morning local time. ‘On the morning of 4 July Tehran time, the Indonesian Ambassador attended the memorial and prayer ceremony for the deceased, who was laid to rest at the Grand Mosalla, Tehran,’ Yvonne stated.

According to official information from the Iranian Government, the series of memorial events took place from 3 to 9 July 2026 in various cities across Iran and Iraq. The body of the late Ayatollah Khamenei was scheduled to be buried in the city of Mashhad on 9 July 2026, following the completion of all memorial processions.
