Foreign Ministry: Search for Three Missing Indonesian Citizens in Strait of Hormuz Continues
Jakarta — The Indonesian Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) stated that authorities continue search operations for three Indonesian nationals (WNI) missing in the Strait of Hormuz.
“For the three Indonesian citizens missing in the Strait of Hormuz, search efforts continue and local authorities are conducting 24-hour operations. They will not stop until local authorities declare the search suspended,” said Acting Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection (PWNI) at Kemlu Heny Hamidah during a media briefing in Jakarta on Friday.
She noted that to date there has been no official statement from the local government regarding the cause of the explosion on the tugboat where the Indonesian workers were employed.
On 6 March, the United Arab Emirates-flagged tugboat Musaffah 2 caught fire and sank in the Strait of Hormuz. As a result of the incident, one Indonesian citizen is being treated at a hospital in Oman, whilst three other Indonesian nationals remain missing.
Additionally, Hamidah reported that 32 Indonesian citizens evacuated from Iran arrived in Indonesia on 10 March 2026. In a second evacuation phase, 34 Indonesian citizens will be flown to Indonesia in two waves.
“The first wave will arrive today with 20 persons, and tomorrow 14 persons will arrive in Jakarta,” said Hamidah.
According to her, in line with the Foreign Minister’s statement, further evacuation needs will be adjusted based on the latest field conditions and the readiness and willingness of Indonesian citizens still in the affected region.
“The Indonesian Embassy will continue intensive communication with Indonesian citizens still in Iran to obtain updates on their situation in their respective locations,” said Hamidah.
