The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that representatives from the Muslim organisations Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah will be part of the official delegation visiting Iran this week. The delegation will include PBNU Chairman KH Yahya Cholil Staquf and PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir, alongside Foreign Minister Sugiono and People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated that the delegation represents the Indonesian nation, sent by President Prabowo Subianto to visit a friendly country. Beyond paying final respects to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the visit will feature bilateral meetings. Foreign Minister Sugiono is scheduled to meet his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation in priority areas, as well as to accelerate coordination in addressing regional and global challenges. MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani will meet Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to bolster inter-parliamentary partnership and people-to-people ties. The body of Ali Khamenei was brought to the Grand Mosalla of Tehran on 3 July and lay in state over the weekend. Funeral processions continued in Qom on 6 July, followed by separate processions in Baghdad, Karbala, and Najaf in Iraq, before the final burial in Mashhad on 9 July 2026.
