Foreign Ministry Monitors Case of Acehnese Woman and Baby Allegedly Murdered in Malaysia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) is continuing to coordinate assistance and handling of the case of a 22-year-old woman from Aceh Tamiang, Putri Hensy Aprilda, who was allegedly tortured to death in Malaysia while pregnant. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur are continuously taking steps to provide assistance and coordination in handling the case of an Indonesian citizen who died due to suspected murder in the Sepang area, Selangor, Malaysia,” said Yvonne Elizabeth Mewengkang on Thursday (25/6/2026). After receiving information from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) regarding the discovery of a woman’s body suspected to be an Indonesian national on 3 June 2026, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur coordinated with the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police and the Criminal Investigation Agency’s Identification Centre to identify the victim. Based on fingerprint examination results, the victim’s identity was confirmed as an Indonesian citizen with the initials P.H.A., a woman from Aceh Province. The Ministry and the Embassy then traced and located the victim’s family through Acehnese community networks in Malaysia. “Through these efforts, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur managed to establish communication with the victim’s family via Mrs I.G. to convey the information,” Yvonne stated. The Embassy has also sent official communication to the Investigating Officer of the Royal Malaysia Police handling the case to confirm the victim’s citizenship status as an Indonesian national. In this communication, the Embassy also conveyed information regarding support provided by Acehnese community organisations in Malaysia for the management of the body. According to information obtained from the Royal Malaysia Police, the suspected perpetrator has been arrested and is currently undergoing investigation and further legal proceedings in accordance with Malaysian laws and regulations. The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur continues to coordinate with the Royal Malaysia Police to monitor the progress of the case and obtain the latest information on the ongoing legal process. Regarding the handling of the body, the Embassy has coordinated with the victim’s family and various related parties. In accordance with the family’s request, the remains of the late P.H.A. were planned to be repatriated to Indonesia on 24 June 2026 after all administrative and permit processes were completed. The Ministry and the Embassy also expressed their deepest condolences to the victim’s family over the incident. The Ministry will continue to monitor the development of the case and assist the victim’s family. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur will continue to closely monitor the development of this case and ensure the provision of necessary consular assistance for the victim’s family, including in the repatriation process of the body and monitoring of the ongoing legal process, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” she said. Previously, a woman from Aceh Tamiang, Putri Hensy Aprilda (22), was allegedly murdered in Malaysia. The victim, who was pregnant, was reportedly tortured brutally until she eventually gave birth prematurely. “The victim was tortured very cruelly. Her stomach was stomped on and beaten repeatedly until she eventually gave birth by herself before her time. In that condition, the baby was born covered in blood,” said Acehnese Senator Sudirman Haji Uma, as reported by detikSumut on Tuesday (23/6). He claimed to have received this information after his team and Gabungan Aceh Bersatu Malaysia conducted searches and handled the bodies of the victim and baby in Malaysia. Based on gathered information, the incident occurred on 25 March in the Klang area, Selangor. According to him, the abuse resulted in the victim giving birth prematurely. The baby who was born was allegedly tortured until death. “The baby was not only hurt once, but was allegedly treated cruelly repeatedly until finally dying,” he explained.
