Foreign Ministry: MIKTA visit to TNI Peacekeeping Mission Centre shows commitment to world peace
Secretary General and Acting Director General of Multilateral Cooperation at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denny Abdi, said the visit by representatives of the five MIKTA countries to the Indonesian Armed Forces Peacekeeping Mission Centre was a form of shared commitment to world peace.
“The arrival of representatives from the five MIKTA countries here is to show our commitment to world peace,” he said at the Indonesian Armed Forces Peacekeeping Mission Centre in Sentul, West Java, on Friday.
He said Indonesia has a constitutional commitment to participate in maintaining world order through its foreign policy and the participation of the Indonesian Armed Forces in various peacekeeping missions.
“Indonesia itself is clearly stated in the fourth paragraph of the preamble to the constitution that we contribute through foreign policy, through the participation of the Indonesian Armed Forces in various peacekeeping visions to contribute to world peace,” he said.
Denny further said the MIKTA visit demonstrated the appreciation and commitment of the five governments towards the efforts made by peacekeepers.
Attention was also given to humanitarian workers who work alongside peacekeepers to help communities in need affected by conflict, he said.
He added that the experience of feeling the simulated conflict situations demonstrated by Indonesian soldiers, including hearing the sound of explosions, served as motivation for diplomats to work harder in preventing conflicts from developing into open war.
“All of us diplomats, from that small exercise earlier, we heard the explosions, we felt how terrifying the situation on the ground is. This gives us motivation to work even harder as diplomats to prevent conflicts in various parts of the world from becoming open war,” he said.
The ambassadors and representatives of the MIKTA countries (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, and Australia) visited the Indonesian Armed Forces Peacekeeping Mission Centre in Sentul, West Java, on Friday.
In addition to paying respects to peacekeepers who died while serving in peacekeeping missions, they also observed pre-deployment training for Indonesian peacekeeping personnel.
MIKTA is a cross-regional forum consisting of active, influential middle-power countries with ambitious visions.
As MIKTA Chair, Australia is working with partner countries to promote international humanitarian principles and strengthen the global humanitarian system.
