Foreign Ministry: Israeli Attacks Disrupt UNIFIL Mandate Implementation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Israel’s activities in southern Lebanon. The ministry stated that Israeli military attacks in the border area with the Zionist state have disrupted the implementation of the United Nations peacekeeping force’s mandate, or United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, said Indonesia has consistently condemned Israel’s attacks in southern Lebanon. “These attacks worsen the security situation, endanger UN peacekeepers, and disrupt UNIFIL’s mandate implementation,” Yvonne said via text message on Thursday, 2 April 2026. According to Yvonne, Indonesia also strongly condemns the attacks that targeted Indonesian peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL. The attacks on 29 and 30 March killed three Indonesian National Army soldiers and injured five others. Yvonne stated that the attacks have caused profound grief for Indonesia. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again conveys its deepest condolences and solidarity to the bereaved families, and prays for a speedy recovery for the injured personnel,” she said. Currently, Indonesia is requesting the UN to investigate the incident, as the perpetrator is not yet known. Indonesia did not explicitly name Israel as the attacker. Yvonne explained the reason why the Indonesian government has not specifically named the perpetrator. “This is because the investigation process by UNIFIL is still ongoing,” she said. Yvonne stated that it is very important for Indonesia’s statements regarding the responsible party to be based on facts and a comprehensive investigation. “So that accountability can be upheld credibly,” Yvonne said. Currently, she stated, the attack is still under investigation by UNIFIL. She described the investigation as aimed at obtaining complete information about the attacking actors and the motives behind the attack that killed three TNI soldiers. Yvonne said Indonesia has firmly requested an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to uncover the facts, including the chronology of the incident and the responsible parties. “Emphasising that full accountability must be upheld, this process will continue to be monitored and overseen by Indonesia,” she said.
