Foreign Ministry Begins Evacuation of Indonesian Citizens from Iran Today
The Indonesian Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) has begun evacuating Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Iran. Evacuation will commence today. “Naturally, while monitoring developments in Iran and security, the evacuation of Indonesian citizens in Iran will start gradually today,” said Acting Director for Protection of Indonesian Citizens at Kemlu Heni Hamidah at the Indonesian Foreign Ministry building in Central Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026.
Heni explained that the evacuation process will be conducted via Azerbaijan. The evacuation will take into account on-the-ground conditions. “The first stage will go through Azerbaijan, but these evacuation routes may be adjusted according to real on-the-ground conditions and will be determined by our colleagues at our embassies in Tehran and Baku,” she said.
Heni noted that 32 Indonesian citizens will be evacuated today. She said the 32 people constitute the first group to be evacuated. “How many will be evacuated in this first Iran batch? There are 32 people. But again, this is just the start. So we may see more. For the moment, 32 people,” she said.
Earlier, the United States and Israel attacked Iran on Saturday (28 February). Those attacks killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran then retaliated by striking Israel and a number of US bases in Arab Peninsula countries. Attacks on Iran continued by Israel and the US. According to Al-Jazeera, more than 1,000 people have been killed in US- and Israel-led attacks in Iran. There are no signs that a war-participating country will declare a ceasefire or make peace yet.
