Jakarta — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said the government will evacuate 15 Indonesian nationals who are in Tehran, Iran. The move comes in response to the escalating conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran.

‘Today I have also instructed our ambassador in Tehran to take immediate evacuation steps,’ Sugiono told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

Sugiono said there are 15 Indonesian nationals who have expressed their willingness to be evacuated. However, he could not yet confirm when the evacuation of the 15 Indonesians from Tehran could take place.

‘This is being arranged as airspace is also currently closed. If evacuation from Tehran, they would need to be taken to Baku; Tehran to Baku is a 10-hour journey. We need to calculate logistics, health, and so on. So it cannot be done today or in an instant,’ he said.

In addition, the secretary-general of the Gerindra Party said there are no Indonesian nationals from neighbouring Iran who have expressed willingness to be evacuated yet. ‘There are none. In Qatar, in the UAE, in Bahrain, none have agreed to be evacuated. These 15 people have expressed willingness, due to logistics and the long journey,’ Sugiono concluded.
