Foreign Minister Sugiono has requested the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to investigate the attack on its headquarters in southern Lebanon. The attack on the UNIFIL military base, where TNI personnel are also serving in this peacekeeping force, resulted in the death of one TNI member, Head Soldier Farizal Rhomadhon.

Sugiono stated that UNIFIL has expressed its intention to investigate the incident. “It is not yet clear where the attack came from; we await the results of the UNIFIL investigation,” Sugiono said in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, 30 March 2026.

In addition to pushing for the UNIFIL investigation, Sugiono also urged the conflicting parties to exercise restraint. “Once again, we call on all parties to de-escalate,” he said.

The General Secretary of the Gerindra Party also condemned Israel in his statement. “We strongly condemn this incident and also strongly condemn the attacks carried out by Israel in southern Lebanon,” he stated.

The incident that killed Farizal occurred in southern Lebanon, specifically near Adchit Al Qusayr, on Sunday, 29 March 2026. At that time, there was a conflict between the Israeli military and the Hezbollah armed group.

The attack hit the position of the Indonesian peacekeeping contingent near Adchit Al Qusayr. In addition to one TNI soldier falling, three other soldiers were injured. Namely, Corporal Rico Pramudia suffered serious injuries, while Corporal Bayu Prakoso and Corporal Arif Kurniawan sustained minor injuries.

The two soldiers with minor injuries have received treatment at UNIFIL Level I Hospital. Meanwhile, the soldier with serious injuries was evacuated by helicopter to St. George Hospital in Beirut for further treatment. Farizal’s body is being laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters (HQ) of UNIFIL pending repatriation to Indonesia.

According to Sugiono, it is currently unclear the origin of the attack that killed Farizal and injured the three TNI soldiers in Lebanon. At that time, there was an attack between the Israeli military and the armed group.

Sugiono also expressed condolences over Farizal’s death. “We request a full investigation from UNIFIL to identify the source of this incident,” said Sugiono.

In a separate statement, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the incident. Through a statement on the X platform on the same day, Guterres mentioned that an Indonesian peacekeeper was killed in an event that occurred amid hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
