Foreign Minister (Menlu) of Indonesia Sugiono has revealed that an attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Sunday (29/3) injured three Indonesian personnel. One of them was seriously injured.

“There are three colleagues who are injured, one with severe injuries and currently in a coma, and two with minor injuries,” Sugiono said in a press statement during his visit to Tokyo on Monday (30/3), according to an audio recording received in Jakarta.

Following the incident, Sugiono assured that Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York will soon meet with senior UN officials handling peacekeeping operations.

In that meeting, the Indonesian representative will discuss compensation for the fallen TNI personnel and convey demands for UNIFIL to investigate the incident.

“We are requesting a full investigation from UNIFIL to identify the source of this incident,” Sugiono stated.

He also expressed the highest respect for the Indonesian personnel who died in the line of duty, especially while carrying out a vital humanitarian mission for peace and human survival.

According to confirmation from the Head of the TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen) at TNI Headquarters, Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, the Garuda contingent member who died in the Sunday attack was Praka Farizal Rhomadhon.

Meanwhile, the three injured personnel are Praka Rico Pramudia, who suffered severe injuries leading to a coma, and Praka Bayu Prakoso and Praka Arif Kurniawan, who sustained minor injuries.

Praka Rico, who has severe injuries, has been evacuated to St. George Hospital in Beirut for intensive care. The two soldiers with minor injuries are receiving treatment at UNIFIL’s Level I Hospital.

He explained that they were injured after the Indonesian contingent’s duty post in the town of Adshit Al-Qusyar in southern Lebanon was hit by artillery fire.

Despite the incident affecting TNI personnel in UNIFIL, Aulia assured that they will continue to carry out the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon professionally.

“The TNI reaffirms its commitment to carrying out its duties as part of the world’s peacekeeping mission under the UN mandate in a professional and responsible manner, while still prioritising the safety of its soldiers,” said Major General Aulia.
