Foreign Minister: Prabowo's offer to mediate US-Iran conflict remains open

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir has stated that President Prabowo Subianto’s offer to mediate between the United States and Iran remains open amid unabating tensions. “The offer is always open, but of course it requires agreement from all parties,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister in response to journalists’ questions following a working meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex in Senayan on Thursday. He stated that the offer represents President Prabowo’s goodwill to play a role in ending the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which has a significant impact on the whole world. The Indonesian President is always ready to provide his good offices in supporting the resolution of the ongoing conflict, said the Deputy Foreign Minister, who is familiarly known as Tata. “This is goodwill from President Prabowo, whereby he has always said he is ready to give his good offices,” he said. Furthermore, Deputy Foreign Minister Tata remarked that Indonesia deeply regrets that the US and Iran are now once again attacking each other and engaging in armed contact, thereby creating new tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that the continuing war not only impacts the communities in the conflicting countries, namely the US and Iran, but also many other nations. “We once again call on all parties to immediately resume a ceasefire and engage in negotiations,” the Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister concluded. When the war between the US-Israel alliance and Iran first broke out on 28 February, President Prabowo expressed readiness to facilitate dialogue in order to restore the security situation in the region. “The President of Indonesia is willing to depart for Tehran to conduct mediation,” stated the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 28 February. This step reflects Indonesia’s commitment to continuing to play an active role in maintaining global stability, in line with the free and active foreign policy it has consistently upheld. Following a ceasefire and protracted negotiations, clashes between Iranian and US forces broke out again on Thursday (11/6) in the early hours of local time in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Meanwhile, the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping as a result of the occurring tensions, according to a Xinhua report.
