Foreign Minister explains Prabowo's Paris visit following two Macron invitations
Foreign Minister Sugiono explained the reasons behind President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to Paris, France. He stated that French President Emmanuel Macron had invited Prabowo for a state visit on two occasions.
‘This was an invitation from President Macron that was initially delayed. Back in April, a visit was expected to take place, but the timing wasn’t suitable,’ Sugiono said in a video statement received on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
Due to the first invitation’s unsuitable timing, Prabowo received a second invitation, which he accepted this week while in Paris.
‘During the President’s visit to Paris, it was also a meeting between the two heads of state. President Macron re-invited and proposed the current date. Since it was extended twice, this is the second time President Prabowo has accepted the invitation,’ Sugiono added.
‘His presence in Paris is also in response to President Macron’s previous visit to Indonesia,’ he said.
Prabowo arrived at Orly Airport in Paris, France, on Tuesday, 26 May, at approximately 10:00 local time. His arrival marked the commencement of the state visit.
President Prabowo later performed the Eid al-Adha prayer for 1447 Hijriah at the Indonesian Embassy in Paris, joining Indonesian citizens and the diaspora in France for the congregational prayer.
According to the Presidential Secretariat’s Bureau of Press, Media, and Information on Thursday, 27 May, accompanied by takbir chants, Prabowo arrived at the embassy at around 08:40 local time, proceeded to the prayer line to recite takbir with attendees before participating in the Eid al-Adha prayer service.
The prayer was conducted solemnly with Indonesian citizens and the diaspora present at the embassy since morning. Prabowo was accompanied by his son Didit Hediprasetyo, Investment Minister and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Danantara Rosan Roeslani, and Chief of Staff Teddy Indra Wijaya.
