Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir Recounts Call from Cabinet Secretary While with Sugiono at Foreign Ministry
Arrmanatha Nasir (Tata) has been inaugurated as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Sugiono. Tata recounted receiving information regarding his new assignment from the Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, earlier this afternoon.
“I only found out this afternoon. I was requested to come to the Palace at 12:30 WIB. The notification came shortly before that,” said Tata following the inauguration at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (1/10/2026).
Tata stated that the information regarding his new mandate was delivered via WhatsApp and a direct telephone call. He shared that he was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office with Sugiono, the former Foreign Minister who now serves as the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Social Affairs.
“It was via WhatsApp and a phone call from the Cabinet Secretary. At the time I was informed, I was with the Foreign Minister (Sugiono) at the office,” he added.
Tata noted that the position of Deputy Foreign Minister is currently held by two individuals, Havas Oegroseno and Anis Matta. He admitted that he does not yet know who will fill the Deputy Minister position he is vacating.
“As of now, there are still two Deputy Foreign Ministers. There has been no information regarding an additional Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs,” he said.
It is noted that the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs changed during the Red and White Cabinet reshuffle in early October 2026. President Prabowo inaugurated Arrmanatha Nasir, previously the Deputy Foreign Minister, as the Indonesian Foreign Minister, replacing Sugiono.
“That I shall be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, and shall execute all laws and regulations with the utmost integrity for my service to the nation and state. That in performing my official duties, I shall uphold professional ethics and work to the best of my ability with full responsibility,” said Prabowo, leading the oath of office which was followed by Tata.
