Foreign investors recorded a thin net buy of Rp39.90 billion in the first trading session on Friday (17/7/2026), as the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) reversed into the green, holding above the 6,100 level, supported by large-cap banking stocks.

At the end of the first session, the IHSG stood at 6,141.9, up 33.69 points or 0.55% from the previous close. A total of 321 stocks advanced, 286 declined, and 358 remained unchanged. Trading value reached Rp6.93 trillion, involving 10.59 billion shares across 1.09 million transactions. The index opened in the red amid sluggish bank stocks before turning positive around 30 minutes after the market opened. Throughout the session, the IHSG moved within a range of 6,079.32 to 6,153.16.

According to Refinitiv, the financial sector was the sole supporter of the IHSG during the session, while all other sectors were in negative territory. PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. (BMRI) rose 3.25%, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBRI) gained 3.15%, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBNI) added 2.57%, and PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BBCA) increased 2.41%. These four banks alone contributed nearly 20 points to the index’s rise. Conversely, PT DCI Indonesia Tbk. (DCII) was the biggest drag, falling 3.94% and weighing on the IHSG by 7.94 points.

Market participants were digesting the release of US labour market and retail consumption data, which confirmed the resilience of the American economy. Domestically, sentiment was supported by record first-half investment realisation of Rp1,010.6 trillion and the inauguration of the giant Masela Block gas project in Maluku.

Based on Stockbit Sekuritas data, foreign investors recorded a net buy of Rp39.90 billion across all markets. Total foreign transaction value in the first session reached Rp5.30 trillion, comprising foreign buy of Rp2.67 trillion and foreign sell of Rp2.63 trillion.
