Foreign Investors Record Massive Net Sell Following MSCI Announcement
Foreign investors recorded a massive net sell-off following the latest market classification review by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI). According to data from Stockbit, during the first trading session on Wednesday (24/6/2026), foreign net selling reached nearly Rp1 trillion. Total foreign selling amounted to Rp2.57 trillion, while foreign buying stood at Rp1.59 trillion, resulting in a net sell of Rp976.13 billion.
Selling pressure was heaviest in the banking sector, particularly on shares of BBRI, BMRI, and BBNI. In contrast, BREN was the only stock to see significant foreign accumulation, with net foreign buy reaching Rp107.79 billion, far outpacing other stocks. Stocks belonging to the Prajogo Pangestu group remained at the centre of foreign transactions. While foreigners aggressively bought BREN, they simultaneously offloaded TPIA, CUAN, and BRPT.
MSCI had earlier announced the results of its 2026 Market Classification Review in the early hours of Wednesday, confirming that Indonesia’s equity market would remain in the Emerging Markets category. The Jakarta Composite Index opened in positive territory but subsequently declined, ending the first session down 1.62% at 6,002.20.
