Foreign Investment Flows: Indonesia Reaps New Commitments Amid Global Conflicts
The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming / Coordinating Agency for Investment (BKPM) states that global conflicts triggering geopolitical tensions have not significantly affected foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into Indonesia. Several investors from major partner countries continue to demonstrate commitment to proceeding with investment projects in the country. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming / Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, said the government has recently conducted a series of working visits with President Prabowo Subianto to several major investor countries, including China, Japan, and South Korea. During each visit, Prabowo took the opportunity to meet directly with business actors from those countries, both in large forums attended by more than 100 entrepreneurs and in limited meetings with around 10 to 12 investors. He emphasised that investors from these three countries remain committed to continuing their investments in Indonesia. The three are known to consistently rank among the top five largest sources of investment in Indonesia. “So far, they remain committed and their investments are proceeding. Especially in various industries and downstreaming,” Rosan said at the DPR RI Building on Monday (13/4/2025). He assessed that this commitment indicates strong investor confidence in Indonesia’s economic prospects, even as the global geopolitical situation is turbulent. “So I still see it very optimistically, and the figures coming in from domestic entrepreneurs are also increasing,” he said. In addition to foreign investors, Rosan also noted an increase in investment interest from domestic business actors. In the last five months, approximately 1.8 million investment registrations have been recorded from business actors, both from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and larger-scale entrepreneurs. According to him, the increase in the number of registrations is a positive signal for national investment growth.
