Jakarta, VIVA – The Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Destry Damayanti, has emphasised that liquidity conditions within the national economic system will remain stable and well-maintained. This stability ensures that the banking sector, particularly state-owned banks (Himbara), can focus on executing government-mandates.

During the ‘Sarasehan 100 Indonesian Economists 2026’ event, Destry expressed confidence that the government has conducted its own calculations regarding the liquidity stability of Himbara banks. Consequently, these banks can assist in financing government projects, such as the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme and the Red and White Village Cooperative (KDMP).

“Because for the government itself, they certainly have their own calculations,” said Destry in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 3 September 2026.

Furthermore, Destry noted that Bank Indonesia, as the central bank, will not remain idle upon recognising that banking liquidity is being absorbed by these government programmes. Therefore, she ensured that BI has prepared liquidity buffers for the banking sector through monetary operation instruments.

“Bank Indonesia is also preparing liquidity in the form of repos, including FX Swaps. As foreign funds enter and are converted into Rupiah, they have reached approximately Rp 920 to Rp 930 trillion,” stated Destry.

She confirmed that such a significant amount reflects the re-circulation of liquidity back into the domestic financial system. Destry emphasised that although the methods used by BI and the government to maintain liquidity availability may differ, the objectives of both parties remain aligned in their shared responsibility.

“Regarding liquidity, it is certainly our collective duty, both for BI and the government. If the government utilises Third-Party Funds (DPK), for us, it enters as a liquidity tool,” she concluded.
