TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Health Department will curb foreign health care services, both doctors and clinics, which operate in Indonesia. “We have been receiving reports, but we will see if it is true that some operate without permits,” said the Director General of Medical Service from the Health Department Farid W . Husain, last Saturday.

The Health Department, said Farid, give permission to foreign doctors to work in Indonesia as long as they follow the procedures. “We keep watch on this,” said Farid.

In response to complaints about foreign doctors and clinics, he promised that he would curb this, but he didn’t mention the time frame.

Sutoto, Head of the Indonesian Hospitals Association, acknowledged that he did not know the regulations on foreign doctors working in the country. According to him, they cannot work here officially because there are no regulations.

He had never met a foreign doctor who works in an Indonesia health care facility. “But, I do not know if there might be hidden practices,” he said.
