SAMPIT, Central Kalimantan: Eight Malaysian and Singaporean
investors have showed an interest in investing Rp 1.2 trillion
(US$144 million) in the plantation and fishery sectors in Seruyan
district, Central Kalimantan.
They decided to invest in Seruyan after assessing the economic
potential and security conditions in the district, which is
relatively safe compared to other areas in the province, said
newly elected Seruyan regent Darwan Ali on Thursday.
He said the investors would invest in palm oil plantations and
shrimp farms.
One of the investors is prepared to build a crude palm oil
canning plant and to hold a 30 percent stake in all large-scale
plantation companies in the district, he said. -- Antara
