Forced to steal two chayotes for breaking his fast, an elderly man in Cianjur dies after being beaten by a neighbour
The Cianjur Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim Polres Cianjur) has revealed why M, a 56-year-old elderly man, stole two chayotes from his neighbour’s garden to be used for breaking his fast. M subsequently died after being assaulted by his neighbour Ujang Ahmad (41).
The incident that resulted in death occurred on Saturday, 28 February 2026, in front of the victim’s house in Kampung Bayabang, Talaga Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency. “The two chayotes taken by the victim would be prepared to become ingredients for breaking his fast,” said Cianjur Police Chief AKBP Akhmad Alexander Yurikho Hadi, on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
He said the offender assaulted the victim on Saturday (28 February 2026) in front of the victim’s house in Kampung Bayabang, Talaga Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency. The assailant attacked the victim with his bare hands.
“The offender struck the victim with bare hands and kicked, causing the victim to suffer bruising around the eyes and head, a wound on the neck, bruising on the shoulder and arm, a bleeding nose, and vomiting,” he said.
He said the perpetrator assaulted the victim because he was suspected of stealing two chayotes from his own garden. The victim managed to flee to his house and was pursued by the perpetrator until the assault continued.
