The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) conducted a forced pickup of Laode Sinarwan Oda (LS), the Director of PT Toshida Indonesia (TSHI), in connection with an alleged bribery case regarding nickel mining governance in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra). The AGO stated that Laode Sinarwan deliberately evaded investigators’ summons and was eventually apprehended at his residence in Tebet, South Jakarta.

“The individual was properly summoned but did not comply and failed to appear. The investigation team then carried out a forced summons, and the individual was secured at one of his homes in the South Jakarta area,” said Head of Public Relations and Protocols at the AGO, Anang Supriatna, to reporters at the AGO complex in South Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

Anang explained that Laode had skipped several summons from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes investigators. Laode was recorded as failing to attend three summons without valid reasons before being forcibly picked up.

“He deliberately avoided it,” said Anang, responding to the reasons for Laode’s three absences from the AGO summons.

After being arrested on Monday (11/5) night, Laode immediately underwent intensive examination. Investigators then designated Laode Sinarwan as a suspect and detained him in the early hours.

“The individual was placed in the Salemba Detention Centre under the Attorney General’s Office branch at around 02:00 this morning. Detention has been imposed for investigation purposes for the next 20 days,” he clarified.

Anang explained that Laode played the role of one of the parties providing bribes to the Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Hery Susanto (HS). “LS is one of the bribe-givers to HS,” he added.

Anang mentioned that investigators had also conducted a search at Laode’s home. However, he did not detail what evidence was seized from the search.

“Yes, once (the search), but clearly the individual was taken first because he had been summoned several times and never appeared,” Anang explained.

Ombudsman Chairman Hery Susanto Suspected of Receiving Rp 1.5 Billion Bribe

The Attorney General’s Office had previously detained the Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Hery Susanto, as a suspect in the bribery case concerning nickel mining governance from 2013-2025. Hery is alleged to have received a bribe of Rp 1.5 billion.

“This suspect received a sum of money from Mr LKM, who is the director of PT TSHI. Approximately Rp 1.5 billion has been handed over from this one person,” said Director of Investigation for Special Crimes at the AGO, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, during a press conference at the AGO in South Jakarta on Thursday (16/4).

Hery is charged under Article 12 letter a, 12 letter b, Article 5 of the Corruption Eradication Law, and Article 606 of the Criminal Code. Hery was detained for the initial 20 days at the Salemba Detention Centre under the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office.

Syarief stated that Hery is suspected of handling issues related to the calculation of non-tax state revenues (PNBP) from PT TSHI. He mentioned that PT TSHI then asked Hery to arrange for the Ombudsman to correct the PNBP calculation.

“Then, together with Mr HS, to arrange so that the letter or policy from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is corrected by the Ombudsman with instructions for PT TSHI to calculate its own payable obligations,” he said.

For information, Hery Susanto officially assumed the position of Ombudsman Chairman for the 2026-2031 period on Friday (10/4). He previously also served as an Ombudsman member for the 2021-2026 period.
