Following the incident where 15 out of 25 containers bound for Singapore were forcibly opened on Sunday, 24 May 2026, the company has spoken out. The company’s lawyer, Poltak Silitonga, expressed regret over the sealing action by personnel from Batam Naval Regional Command.

Poltak stated the action violated the law, as the exported goods had been verified by legitimate Customs documents and government permits. “Who gave the order for the forced seal opening will be sued,” he told media on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

“That is an inappropriate action. The forced container dismantling is unlawful,” he added.

Poltak deemed the action arbitrary and arrogant, as it was carried out without a warrant and without confirming with him as the legal representative.

He stressed that, regardless of the reason, cargo that has passed government verification holds legal validity and cannot be dismantled arbitrarily.

“The dismantling violates the law because it has been verified by legitimate government authorities. If it needs to be opened, a court order is required, not just a command from person A or B. This is a rule of law country; it would be different if it became a regime of power,” he added.

Previously, the Capricorn barge carrying 25 mineral ore containers bound for Singapore was seized by KRI Kujang 642 of the Indonesian Fleet Command in Nongsa Batan waters while en route from Pangkal Balam Port in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung Islands to Singapore.

The Capricorn was handed over to Batam Naval Regional Command Headquarters. The seizure was protested by the cargo owner, citing that the vessel had all valid documentation.

Protests were raised by lawyer Poltak Silitonga, who sent a letter to the Batam Naval Regional Command leadership. Subsequently, Batam Naval Regional Command invited all parties for a meeting at its headquarters. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commander of Batam Naval Regional Command, Commodore K. Budyarto, took place in Batam, Riau Islands on 22 May.
