Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa plans to transfer 213 employees from the Directorate General of Budget (DJA) to the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) due to the shortage of human resources in the DJP.

“The DJP is short on staff. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Budget has a surplus. Rather than recruiting new people, I will transfer some, perhaps 213 people to the DJP,” said Purbaya at his office in Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026).

Purbaya stated that this policy is being pursued to streamline the tax employee recruitment process. With this staff migration mechanism, he believes the government can reduce the burden on employee expenditure budgets.

He noted that DJA employees are already trained in managing fiscal matters across all lines, as most Ministry of Finance employees are graduates of the State Financial Polytechnic (PKN STAN). PKN STAN is a civil service higher education institution under the Financial Education and Training Agency of the Ministry of Finance.

“They are not new employees anymore, so my burden doesn’t increase. Thus, I am enhancing the DJP’s functions without significantly increasing the budget burden. They can be trained; they are all educated people, mostly with bachelor’s degrees or from STAN,” explained Purbaya.

“And they are already trained so far. So, if they move there, the adjustment won’t be too much. I think a week or two of tax training will suffice,” he added.

Nevertheless, Purbaya acknowledged that there are voices of opposition regarding the migration of DJA employees to the DJP, due to desires for new recruitments. However, he stressed that for the sake of efficiency, the migration process is more ideal.

“As the minister, some say they prefer new recruits, but I think for efficiency, why would I leave around 100 people in budgeting and then recruit new ones? That would be wasteful. So, I will proceed according to efficiency,” he elaborated.
