JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) has emphasised that the Ministry of Social Affairs will not undertake any overseas official trips as part of efficiency measures. Gus Ipul explained that the government has issued a policy to cut domestic official travels by 50 percent, while suppressing overseas official travels by up to 70 percent. “The Ministry of Social Affairs has specifically decided that we will not conduct any overseas trips. That means, for overseas trips, we are at 0 percent,” said Gus Ipul, when met after the New Work Culture Team Building event at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026). “However, if using official travel funds from the Ministry of Social Affairs budget, we have decided not to use them, so we are heading towards 0 percent for overseas official trips,” he stated. Previously reported, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that this official travel reduction policy is an adaptive step to encourage more efficient, productive, and digital-based work patterns. “Efficiency of domestic official travels by up to 50 percent and overseas by up to 70 percent,” said Airlangga, in an online press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Besides official travels, the government is also implementing mobility efficiency through limiting the use of official vehicles by 50 percent, except for operational needs and electric vehicles. On the other hand, the government is urging greater use of public transportation. Not only at the central level, regional governments are also urged to adjust mobility control policies according to the characteristics of their respective regions, including expanding the implementation of car-free days.
