Freelance journalist to represent Indonesia in Hong Kong Shopping Competition
Kenny Santana, a Jakarta-based freelance journalist, has been declared the Indonesian contender in the 2005 Shopper of the Year competition in Hong Kong in the middle of next month
The 26 year old, who is also a film festival organizer, was named the Indonesia contender after winning a quiz published by The Jakarta Post in its Sunday, June 19 edition.
The quiz, organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board in cooperation with The Jakarta Post, attracted more than 300 entries from among the newspaper's readers. Only eight were qualified to compete in the final round.
As winner of the quiz, Kenny walks away with a four-day, three-night trip to Hong Kong for two to participate in the shopping contest. Airline tickets and hotel accommodation are included in the prize.
"It's a dream come true," Kenny commented when asked about his feelings after being selected to take part in the prestigious shopping contest. "This will be my first trip to Hong Kong. I'm really excited about visiting this shopping paradise," said the shopaholic Kenny.
He said he would take his brother, who knows his way around Hong Kong's shopping areas. "I'm optimistic about winning the grand prize, with the help of my brother" he enthused.
Kenny will compete against other contestants from 17 countries around the globe in the shopping contest, part of the 2005 Hong Kong Shopping Festival's highlight, which takes place from June 25 to Aug. 31.
Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the festival aims to showcase Hong Kong as a well-established shopping destination in the world.
During the contest, each team is required (which consists of two participants) to purchase one item from each of the 2005 Hong Kong Shopping Festival shopping themes, which are Fashion and Beauty, Jewelry and Watches, Consumer Electronics and Chinese Traditions.
Each team will also be given a digital camera to capture their shopping moments and the newly-introduced Photo Award will be given to the best team.
The grand prize winner walks away with a two nights stay at the legendary Peninsula Hong Kong Hotel, Cathay Pacific round trip business class tickets, Samsung 40-inch LCD TV, 15-minute helicopter flight-seeing and deluxe hamper from The Peninsula Shopping Arcade.
The 2005 Hong Kong Shopping Festival offers an awesome experience featuring special themed activities and a host of special promotions by retail associations, shopping malls and themed food districts.
The mesmerizing event captures the diversity and sophistication of Hong Kong, and leverages on the annual summer sales to offer visitors the once-in-a-year opportunity to enjoy great discounts.
The festival highlights four major shopping themes: world- class fashion and beauty brands, top-of-the-line watch and jewelry products, cutting edge electronics and unique Chinese traditions.
From high-end international fashion to funky independent labels, Hong Kong offers a wide array of fashion and beauty products as there is always something to suit every shopper's style and budget.
The Hong Kong Shopping Festival is a great way indeed to pick up some fantastic buys.
