A football pitch in the Gatot Subroto area of RT 03 RW 04, Pancoran, South Jakarta, caught fire. The blaze is suspected to have originated from a cigarette butt.

“We deployed three pump units and 12 personnel to extinguish the fire at the location,” said Sjukri Bahanan, Head of the Operations Section at the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department, quoted by Antara on Tuesday (8/9/2026).

The fire began when a witness named Eliza, who was on her way to work, saw that the pitch was already ablaze. She attempted to find a portable fire extinguisher (APAR).

However, the flames had grown quite large. The witness then contacted 113/112 Jakarta Siaga to summon the fire brigade.

Personnel from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the location at 12.04 WIB, with firefighting operations beginning at 12.15 WIB. The fire was extinguished an hour later, at 13.10 WIB.

“The status is that it has been successfully extinguished,” said Sjukri.

The fire scorched a football pitch measuring 900 square metres. The blaze is suspected to have been caused by a cigarette butt.

There were no injuries or fatalities from the incident. The estimated losses caused by the fire are still being recorded.
