Food Prices Today: Red Chilli Peppers Hit Rp83,550 per kg, Chicken Eggs Remain Above Rp31,000

The National Strategic Food Price Information Centre (PIHPS), managed by Bank Indonesia, has recorded that a number of strategic food commodity prices remain at high levels. Red chilli peppers have become one of the commodities with the highest price, reaching Rp83,550 per kilogram (kg). Based on PIHPS data released on Monday, the price of purebred chicken eggs at the national retail level was recorded at Rp31,600 per kg. In addition to red chilli peppers and purebred chicken eggs, several other food commodities also showed relatively high prices, ranging from onions and rice to beef. PIHPS noted that the price of shallots was at Rp61,700 per kg, while garlic was sold at Rp46,400 per kg. For the rice group, the prices of various rice qualities were recorded as follows: lower quality I rice at Rp16,850 per kg, lower quality II rice at Rp16,500 per kg, medium quality I rice at Rp17,650 per kg, medium quality II rice at Rp17,700 per kg, super quality I rice at Rp18,600 per kg, and super quality II rice at Rp18,750 per kg. The data indicates that super quality rice remains the highest priced in the national retail market. From the horticultural commodity group, red chilli peppers were recorded as the most expensive commodity. The price of red chilli peppers reached Rp83,550 per kg, far above other types of chillies also traded in the market. The details of other chilli prices are: large red chillies at Rp54,850 per kg, curly red chillies at Rp63,500 per kg, and green chilli peppers at Rp53,050 per kg. The high price of red chilli peppers makes this commodity one of the food items of most concern to the public because it directly affects household expenditure. In the animal protein group, the price of fresh purebred chicken meat was recorded at Rp38,650 per kg. Meanwhile, beef prices remained in the range of Rp140,000 to Rp150,000 per kg.
