The prices of several strategic food commodities continue to show significant upward movement in national trade. According to the latest data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Centre (PIHPS), managed by Bank Indonesia, red bird’s eye chilli has become one of the highest-priced commodities, reaching Rp75,700 per kilogram (kg).

Meanwhile, the price of chicken eggs was recorded at Rp30,400 per kg, and shallots were sold at Rp54,350 per kg at the national retail level. Data released by PIHPS on Sunday, 7 June 2026, indicates that several staple foods remain at relatively high levels, particularly within the chilli, onion, and animal protein groups.

Red bird’s eye chilli has emerged as the most expensive commodity within the horticulture group compared to other types of chilli. The list of chilli prices based on PIHPS data is as follows:

  • Red bird’s eye chilli: Rp75,700 per kg

  • Large red chilli: Rp64,550 per kg

  • Curly red chilli: Rp61,000 per kg

  • Green bird’s eye chilli: Rp55,350 per kg

The price of red bird’s eye chilli, approaching Rp76,000 per kg, indicates that this commodity remains a major contributor to high household expenditure for kitchen necessities. In addition to chilli, the price of shallots remains above Rp50,000 per kg, specifically at Rp54,350 per kg, while garlic was recorded at a lower price of Rp38,850 per kg.

Within the animal protein group, the price of chicken eggs was recorded at Rp30,400 per kg, while the price of fresh broiler chicken stands at Rp38,150 per kg. For beef commodities, prices remain quite high, with the following breakdown:

  • Beef Quality I: Rp148,500 per kg

  • Beef Quality II: Rp140,100 per kg

The price difference between Quality I and Quality II beef reaches more than Rp8,000 per kilogram.
