Food poisoning ruling necessary, YPKKI says

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Health Consumers Empowerment Foundation (YPKKI) called on the government on Wednesday to issue a regulation concerning food security in response to cases of food poisoning in East Java, Lampung and West Sumatra.

YPKKI demanded the government make it mandatory for every food producer to follow good manufacturing practices and hygiene standards.

It also urged the government not only to issue a public warning on food poisoning, but also to draft a regulation that would impose heavy sanctions against food producers that did not follow standards. -- JP
