Food Minister Praises Forestry Ministry as Fastest to Implement Carbon Trading Policy

Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan has encouraged other ministries and institutions to accelerate the implementation of the Carbon Economic Value (NEK) policy. He urged other sectors to emulate the tactical steps taken by the Ministry of Forestry, which is considered the most responsive in translating the government’s policy into operational regulations. This was conveyed by Zulhas while attending the approval event for the Minister of Forestry regarding the issuance of carbon units through the Non-Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificate (Non SPE-GRK) scheme. “We hope other sectors will be accelerated,” Zulhas said, as quoted on Tuesday (7/7/2026). At the event in Jakarta on Monday, Zulhas gave special appreciation to the Ministry of Forestry for successfully following up on Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 concerning Carbon Economic Value with speed. The Ministry of Forestry was deemed to have successfully formulated technical regulations that serve as the main foundation for implementing carbon trading in the field. “I am truly grateful and appreciative of the Ministry of Forestry for moving quickly to translate Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 concerning Carbon Economic Value into operational regulations,” stressed the politician from the National Mandate Party. According to Zulhas, the launch of carbon trading in the forestry sector is an important milestone for the implementation of national climate policy. The presence of this regulation proves that the carbon trading mechanism in Indonesia now has a concrete legal basis and is ready to be fully operational. He specifically highlighted the issuance of Minister of Forestry Regulation Number 6 of 2026 concerning Procedures for Carbon Trading through the Greenhouse Gas Emission Offset Mechanism in the Forestry Sector. This regulation is expected to provide legal certainty for business actors while strengthening the national carbon market. “The presence of Minister of Forestry Regulation Number 6 of 2026 is expected to provide better legal certainty for the implementation of carbon trading in this sector,” he concluded.
