Food Coordinator Minister targets 20,000–30,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives completed by June 2026

Jakarta — Indonesia’s Food Coordinator Minister Zulkifli Hasan has stated that the construction of Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (Red and White Village Cooperatives) continues to be accelerated, with a target of approximately 20,000 to 30,000 units to be completed by June 2026.

“We estimate by June, we can complete 20,000 to 30,000 of these,” Hasan said following a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that cooperative construction continues across various regions, with the number of completed structures expected to increase steadily as construction progresses.

Hasan revealed that the government has currently prepared more than 32,000 locations for village cooperative development, with some already in the final stages of completion. Meanwhile, the number of Red and White Village Cooperatives already constructed has reached 2,252.

“The latest update shows that land is available and over 32,000 cooperatives will be built. Of these, 2,252 are already completed, but this is moving forward every day because some are at 60 per cent, some at 70 per cent, 80 per cent,” he said.

According to him, the government is also accelerating land surveys to ensure all villages and urban communities can establish cooperatives.

Hasan noted that surveys are being conducted particularly in urban areas and villages that do not always have land of approximately 1,000 square metres.

Additionally, he said, there are villages that do not yet have land for cooperative development, so regional governments have been asked to assist in land provision.

“For villages and communities that do not have land, the land will be purchased by the governor or regent based on guidance from the Ministry of Interior,” Hasan said.

He added that the Ministry of Interior will issue a circular as a legal framework for regional governments to assist in land provision for village cooperative development.

According to him, the acceleration of Red and White Village Cooperative construction is expected to strengthen the village economic ecosystem and support food distribution and economic services for communities in the regions.
