Food Coordinating Ministry drafts regulations on local food supply chain for MBG
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy for Coordination of Food Affordability and Security at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Nani Hendiarti, revealed that her office is preparing a Draft Coordinating Ministerial Regulation (Permenko) for Food concerning the local raw material supply chain for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Programme.
She stated that the formation of this Permenko aims to implement the mandate of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 115 of 2025 on the Governance of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme, which directs the Coordinating Ministry for Food to coordinate various ministries and agencies in ensuring the food supply chain for MBG.
“Because without food ingredients, the programme cannot run, and it is hoped that the food supplies come from local sources,” said Nani Hendiarti at the National Summit 2026 of the Indonesian Association of Free Nutritious Meals Entrepreneurs and Managers (APPMBGI) in Jakarta on Sunday.
She explained that utilising a local food supply chain, including from Red White Village Cooperatives (Kodpes), MSMEs, Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), livestock farmers, fishermen’s cooperatives, and market traders, can reduce logistics costs and extend the shelf life of raw materials.
Her office is also encouraging managers of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), local governments, and other stakeholders to build a sustainable food supply chain ecosystem in each region.
In addition to the Permenko, Nani stated that the government is currently developing pilot projects, technical guidelines, and regulations from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) related to this food supply chain ecosystem.
Nevertheless, she acknowledged that not all regions can meet raw materials from local suppliers in the near term, especially in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas, so additional budgets will be provided for those regions.
“There is a new policy to add what is called additional costs for those remote locations after we see that they cannot (obtain local food supplies in the near term), but with that, they still must build ecosystems in their respective locations going forward,” said Nani.
Presidential Regulation No. 115 of 2025 mandates the Coordinating Ministry for Food to coordinate the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), and the National Food Agency (Bapanas) in implementing the MBG Programme.
Various aspects that need coordination include increasing production capacity, food availability, food affordability, and the availability of food price information.
